LEXINGTON SYMPHONY SEASON OPENER FEATURES FABULOUS YOUNG ARTIST

On Saturday, September 16th at 8:00pm at the National Heritage Museum in Lexington, the Lexington Symphony will present the first concert of its 12th season, performing Haydn's Symphony No. 73 "La Chasse"; Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 with soloist Mariana Green-Hill, first-place winner of the BSO Competition; and Ravel's "Mother Goose." A talk by Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Jonathan McPhee will precede the concert at 7:00pm in the auditorium.

Active as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher, violinist Mariana Green-Hill last appeared with the Lexington Symphony in 1999 while she was a student at the Juilliard School. She grew up in Boston and took lessons through Boston's Project STEP, which provides string instrument training and support for highly talented students of color, preparing them for careers in classical music. Project STEP is a collaboration of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston University College of Fine Arts and New England Conservatory.

Green-Hill has been a featured guest soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops, and the orchestras of New Jersey, Memphis and Detroit. As a member of the Amaryllis String Quartet, she was awarded First Prize in the prestigious Fischoff Chamber Music Competition and performed with YoYo Ma and Pamela Frank, among others. She is a founding member of The Young Eight, a critically acclaimed octet of African-American string players from top conservatories dedicated to exposing communities to the arts through classical music. In the four years since its inception, The Young Eight has established itself as one of the next generation's most dynamic and energetic chamber ensembles, presenting numerous concerts and educational programs in major American cities.

The Lexington Symphony is committed to sharing the appreciation of classical music and building community through quality live performances. Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Jonathan McPhee is Music Director of the Boston Ballet and one of New England's leading musical figures. Additional concert times and venues for the season are November 4, 2006, 8pm at the National Heritage Museum in Lexington, February 3, 2007 8pm at Cary Hall, Lexington, and April 15, 2007 (Sunday) at 3pm, Cary Hall, Lexington.
