LEXINGTON SYMPHONY PRESENTS VIOLINIST STEFAN JACKIW IN EVENTS FOR ALL AGES

Back from cross-country appearances with major orchestras from New York Philharmonic to Seattle Symphony, violin sensation Stefan Jackiw performs Korngold's Violin Concertowith the Lexington Symphony in his exclusive Boston-area engagement this season.  He is the featured soloist in three events designed to reach all ages:  full Dress Rehearsal on Friday, February 8th at 7:00pm, including Q&A with McPhee and Jackiw; Concert on Saturday, February 9th at 8:00pm; and Children’s Workshop/Concert on Sunday, February 10th at 2:00pm.  Also on the program are Serenade for Winds by Richard Strauss and Sibelius' triumphant Fifth Symphony.  A multimedia portion of the program includes photos of animals from the Polaroid Collections synchronized to two short works by Sibelius and Gounod, with the special exhibit Fins, Wings and Other Such Things:  Photos from the Polaroid Collections available for viewing at intermission. All performances take place at the National Heritage Museum, Lexington under the baton of Music Director Jonathan McPhee.

Violinist Stefan Jackiw appeared with the Lexington Symphony two years ago in an open rehearsal offered free to area children and their parents as part of the Symphony’s ongoing outreach programs.  At the time, Jackiw was a student at Harvard simultaneously working towards an Artist Diploma from the New England Conservatory.   In July 2007, Mr. Jackiw made his debut with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Ludovic Morlot in the Concerts in the Parks series. The following month, he appeared with the Boston Symphony and Morlot at Tanglewood. Other highlights of the 2006-2007 season included return engagements with the Seattle Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, the Utah Symphony, and the Eugene (OR) Symphony, as well as appearances with the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Utah Symphony, and the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast, Ireland, and a U.S. tour with the Moscow State Orchestra performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. For Jackiw's full bio and recent reviews, please visit http://www.stefanjackiw.com.

The Children’s Workshop/Concert, a child-oriented, informal, hands-on introduction to classical music, offers opportunities to try out instruments, conduct a group, and explore the interaction of sight and sound with artwork and music. A lucky raffle winner conducts the whole orchestra at the one-hour concert, which includes selections from the prior evening's concert, a performance by Stefan Jackiw and a multimedia presentation of comic animal photos from the Polaroid Collections.
