LEXINGTON SYMPHONY SEASON OPENS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH
Mozart’s Requiem is the featured masterwork at the Lexington Symphony’s first concert of the 2008-2009 season on Saturday, September 13th at 8:00pm, Cary Hall, Lexington. Greater Boston’s New World Chorale, many of whose members have performed locally and internationally with the world’s major orchestras, joins the Symphony for this event. Also on the program are Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Lutoslawski’s Dance Preludes, with clarinetist William Kirkley. A talk about the evening’s program by Music Director Jonathan McPhee precedes the concert at 7:00pm in the concert hall. On November 8th at 8:00pm, the orchestra presents a romantic program celebrating Tchaikovsky, featuring international violinist Irina Muresanu performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. This program is generously funded by the Lexington Symphony Concert Fund Partners (for information about the Lexington Symphony Concert Fund Partners, please call (781) 863-9581). New this season, the orchestra will perform a Holiday Pops Concert on Friday, December 5th at 8:00pm to celebrate Lexington’s Holiday Festival Night, with free tickets for all youth 18 and under. On February 7th, 2009, the orchestra welcomes mezzo-soprano Janna Baty, who has made her name internationally in critically-acclaimed performances and recordings with the Naxos label. Baty, who has won international competitions and has performed with groups ranging from the Royal Philharmonic to Boston Lyric Opera, graduated from Lexington High School. The orchestra’s season finale is on Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm, April 19th. In honor of Patriots’ Day, the program features works by British and American composers, including Gershwin’s American in Paris. Award-winning young artist Lydia Ding, who attends Lexington High School, performs Saint-Saens’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso for violin.
