Virtuoso Magdalena Richter Performs Beethoven Violin Concerto With Lexington Sinfonietta

On February 12th, virtuoso Magdalena Richter will join the Lexington Sinfonietta and new principal conductor Jonathan McPhee in a performance of the Beethoven Violin Concerto. Also on the program are Stravinsky's Danses Concertantes and Ravel's "Le Tombeau de Couperin." The concert takes place at the National Heritage Museum at 8pm. A pre-concert talk with Mr. McPhee will precede the concert at 7pm in the Farr Room.

Originally from Poland, Magdalena Richter began her concert career playing with her parents, both of them professional musicians. She studied at the Academy of Music in Warsaw, where she earned her diploma with highest honors and joined the faculty. In the US, she studied at Boston University and the Longy School with Roman Totenberg, and received a scholarship with Dorothy Delay at the Juilliard School, where she won the Extraordinary Student of America Award. She has won numerous other awards, including prizes in the International Competition for American Contemporary Music, the International Wieniawski Competition and the International Young Violinists' Competition. She is a frequent performer, having appeared with the Boston Pops, the Warsaw and Cracow Philharmonics and in concert halls throughout Europe and the United States.

A Lexington resident, Ms. Richter is also a very devoted teacher and serves as Chair of the String Department of New England Conservatory's Preparatory Division and on the faculty of the Boston Conservatory. She has participated in many outreach presentations for school children in Poland and the United States.

The Lexington Sinfonietta is an orchestra with forty dedicated core members. Its principal conductor and artistic advisor Jonathan McPhee joins the group this year in its 10th anniversary season.
