On Saturday, April 8th at 8:00pm at the National Heritage Museum in Lexington, conductor Jonathan McPhee will return to the podium with the Lexington Sinfonietta for a performance of American music in honor of Lexington's historic heritage and Patriots' Day festivities. A talk by McPhee about the evening's music will precede this final concert of the season at 7:00pm in the auditorium.
The program will lead off with a musical setting of Longfellow's famous poem, "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere," by the prize-winning composer Julian Wachner, narrated by David Rockefeller, Jr. A favorite of the violin repertoire, the Barber Violin Concerto, will follow, performed by dazzling violinist Jason Horowitz. The final work, "Old American Songs" by Aaron Copland, includes familiar songs from America's past and will feature Boston's celebrated baritone Robert Honeysucker and the Lexington High School Madrigal Singers.
For families seeking a child-oriented, informal, hands-on introduction to classical music, the Lexington Sinfonietta will present a first-time Children's Event on the afternoon of April 8th at the National Heritage Museum. This event will bring out the "what is it?" "how do you play it?" and "can I do it too?" in our youngest members of the community. Share the joy of inspiration in a creative musical workshop from 2:30-3:30pm featuring an instrument petting zoo, "ask the musician" booth, conduct-your-own-group, "Midnight Ride" illustrator Christopher Bing, crafts and more. A lucky raffle winner will conduct the whole orchestra at the 4pm child-friendly shortened version of the evening's concert, featuring the narrated "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere."
The Lexington Sinfonietta is a symphony orchestra committed to sharing the appreciation of classical music and building community through quality live performances. Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Jonathan McPhee is Music Director of the Boston Ballet and one of New England's leading musical figures.
